It’s Autism Awareness Month so let me give a shoutout to my tour guide on Our Journey Through Autism. When he was diagnosed at 3 they said I needed to prepare for the worse. They said he may never talk, be potty trained, mentally mature. He was 3!!!! He was potty trained that year and he was talking before 6. He has opportunities but , with his 11th birthday just over a month away he is for the most part a “regular” 10 year old. He does things now that at 3 years old I didn’t even allow myself to imagine m. I was sleep and he came into my room and asked if he could have some noodles 🍜 He 10 so “of course”he can make them on his own and he can also put his bedding in the dryer. Lol! Sometimes, I get caught up in our opportunities and forget all of our wins. My brother recorded this. This journey can get difficult sometimes but, that’s life. In my opinion the two most critical things that helped my son progress is # 1 I stopped listening to everyone who didn’t believe in my sons abilities because, what is a fact is there is NO AUTISM expert but, I am the specialist in him. #2 I not only accepted Autism , I embraced it as a part of us. Autism....Receiving the diagnosis was truly one of the most difficult moments in my life. Even thinking about it now a feeling washes over me. I love my baby beyond any words I could ever express so.... I not only accepted but embraced that Autism was apart of him, therefore it is apart of me. We live it every second, of every day. We have struggles and we have great rewards. It’s apart of the scenery as we travel on our journey.
